Doble Baston - Double Sticks

Doble Baston (Double sticks) are used for a combination of attack and defence and simultaneous blocking and striking.

This system is more advanced than Solo Baston and is great for developing one’s coordination and ambidexterity. Many of the Solo Baston techniques, such as strikes and disarms can be applied within Doble Baston.

Students are taught the 24 basic modern strikes of Kombatan, which cover all angles of striking and defence. A wide variety of striking and twirling techniques are also taught called Sinawalis (weaving pattern). These Sinawali strike patterns are not only for drills, but their weaving effect makes them extremely effective in a real sense. An attacker would have a difficult time trying to get near you.

All these patterns train align-hand and cross-hand blocking, block checking, parrying, simultaneous blocking and striking and proper footwork. Once these techniques have been learned, the practitioner can use a variety of sinawali follow-up strikes or any combination of classical strikes such as, Sungkiti or Abanico strikes.

Doble Baston techniques are practised at all ranges – long, medium and short, utilizing the tip end for long range and the butt end (near hand) for close range. Most long range techniques are similar or the same as the Espada (sword) techniques.

Many disarms are taught also utilising both ends of the sticks. These disarms can transcend into locks, chokes, takedowns and restraints.

Palit – Palit (Give and Take) drills are practice regularly to develop evasive movement, angling, blocking and countering in all 3 ranges. Doble Baston has controlled sparring drills for fast flowing exchange that teaches a student, at any given moment to block and counterstrike or disarm.

Doble Baston freestyle sparring (with head and body armour) is required for each grading level.
