Dumog is a complete grappling and wrestling art of the Philippines. A student will first learn the defensive skills of how to breakfall and roll in order of being capable to be safely taken to the ground. Dumog techniques are composed of choking, joint locking, dislocation, tearing of muscles and tendons, throws and takedowns designed to immobilise and incapacitate opponents, as wells as pressure point and nerve attack. It’s takedown techniques and body manipulations are based on the principles of physics and geometry. Dumog includes both standing grappling and throwing as well as submission style fighting. It is basically designed to keep your opponent from hitting you whilst you can strike or attack them. Learn how to go with the force can easily defeat a far stronger opponent. If trying to take them down one way and they resist, quickly change and go their way and turn their own strength against them. Understanding of body leverage using push and pull at the same time will enable you to take down your opponent. Lock are usually taught in a flow drill as this is done to help you flow from one technique to another. If your opponent is wriggling out of a lock, it teaches you how to quickly change to a different technique. Locks can be effective once you have learnt how to get the advantage over your opponent with trapping, takedowns etc. They can be most effective especially against disarming an attacker with a weapon. Students learn how to “put it all together” as they experience everything dealing with kicking, punching, trapping and grappling. At the advance levels, students deal with weapon related attacks in each of the above scenarios. |
